Texting and Driving

Texting and driving is a form of distracted driving.  Many teens who get behind the wheel text and drive.  This is horrible.  Here are some facts.

  • 5 seconds is the minimal amount your attention is away from the road
  • Texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to crash than while not texting and driving
  • The number of 18-20 year olds who text or talk behind the wheel: 13%
  •  Americans between the ages 16-17 who has a cell phone: 82%
  • Teens who text and drive are only in the lane they are in 10% of the time
  • 55% of drivers who are young say it is easy to text and drive
  • 48% of teens have seen their parents text and drive
  • 1/5 of all drivers confess to surfing the web while driving
  • 3,331 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted drivers
  • 11% of teens under 20 have been in a fatal accident from being distracted
  • Texting and driving is ranked as the most dangerous distraction
  • A drivers' steering ability decreases by 91% while texting
  • Only 4 states are actively trying to ban texting while driving
