Texting and Driving

Texting and driving is a form of distracted driving.  Many teens who get behind the wheel text and drive.  This is horrible.  Here are some facts.

  • 5 seconds is the minimal amount your attention is away from the road
  • Texting and driving makes you 23 times more likely to crash than while not texting and driving
  • The number of 18-20 year olds who text or talk behind the wheel: 13%
  •  Americans between the ages 16-17 who has a cell phone: 82%
  • Teens who text and drive are only in the lane they are in 10% of the time
  • 55% of drivers who are young say it is easy to text and drive
  • 48% of teens have seen their parents text and drive
  • 1/5 of all drivers confess to surfing the web while driving
  • 3,331 people were killed in crashes caused by distracted drivers
  • 11% of teens under 20 have been in a fatal accident from being distracted
  • Texting and driving is ranked as the most dangerous distraction
  • A drivers' steering ability decreases by 91% while texting
  • Only 4 states are actively trying to ban texting while driving

Child Abuse Facts

Child abuse is when children under the age of 18 are abused (hit, kicked, ect.) by their parents or another adult.  You probably already know what child abuse is, so I won't go into detail about it.  Here are some facts.

  • about 5 children die each day because of child abuse
  • Most children who are neglected and abused are under the age of 18 months
  • About 40 million children under the age of 15 will be abused, neglected, or violence worldwide
  • 79.4% of kids who died from child abuse were under the age of 4
  • 3.6 million cases of child abuse in the US are reported, and there are 6 million children involved, each year
  • For every child abuse incident that is reported, about 2 incidents go unrecorded
  • A report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds
  • Families with 4 or more children have a higher rate of child abuse
  • 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused
Adults who suffered child abuse as children are more likely to:
  • 14% of men and 36% of women who are in US prisons were abused as children
  • 25% more likely to experience teen pregnancy
  • 30% more likely to commit a violent crime
  • 25% more likely to do drug use
